“For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done,” Isaiah 46: 9-10

Today marks three years that Daddy has lived in our home. When I said “Yes” to God over three years ago, I never imagined it would last this long. O Lord God, please make me faithful to serve him with cheerfulness and patience and enthusiasm and self-forgetfulness, in love and good works until the end of his life.

Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; Hosea 6: 3

In pressing on to know the Lord, I want to echo Paul: “that I may know (Christ) and the power of His resurrection” Philippians 3: 10 and “for I know Whom I have believed” 2 Timothy 1: 12. In both instances, Paul is writing from prison! Does Paul talk about his feelings? No, Paul focuses on what he knows.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2: 8-9

Reading an article about Coxe Feary (1759-1822) by Michael A.G. Haykin, I recognize a belief common in our age: “belief in the freedom of the human will and the saving merit of good works.” O merciful God, please grant repentance of sin and faith in the saving work of Christ alone.

What is man’s primary purpose?
Man’s primary purpose is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.

(Christians) are to shine as lights in the world…..Philippians 2:15

How can I glorify God? By shining as a light in the darkness. By loving my neighbor as I love myself. By serving my neighbor as I would like to be served. Especially my neighbor who lives in my house.

But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in your hand; Psalm 31: 14-15a

Time. How should I spend my time? I spend my time in ways I wouldn’t have chosen. But it’s a gift from God to serve one of His image-bearers. Preparing meals, doing laundry, washing dishes, changing the bed, taking out trash, listening to repeated familiar stories, doctor visits, emergency room visits: O Lord, my times are in your hand.
